Social Media For MBA Marketing

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2010

social-media-university-badge You know you are an MBA student when…
1. You refer to your previous life as ‘my sunk costs’
2. You know the true value of launching a Vodite
3. You spend your spring break preparing a presentation for your next class on the benefits of social media marketing with MBA student recruitment

I am entering my last class and working hard on completing my final MBA Capstone project.  Social Media and web marketing have always been a passion of mine, so naturally I choose to culminate my MBA career with an in-depth overview of social media and how it can be used by business schools to recruit prospective students.

I have spent the past few weeks blogging about some conclusions made in the MBA social media marketing arena, but this presentation goes deeper and graphically depicts why social media is vital in any MBA program’s marketing plans.  If you work in an MBA program admissions department, are looking to convince your program director to get into social media, or are just a lover of social media, then this presentation is right up your alley.  Enjoy and feel free to share!

  1. Insightful, clear reflections on the need for Social Media marketing at MBA programs. There is great need. Most are lagging in adoption.

  2. Hello,
    Very interesting !
What is for you a “school-related websites”?
    Thanks

  3. School related websites could be many things as long as they are outside of the actual school’s website. They could be facebook groups/pages, student or alumni blogs, even more interactive web presences such as student podcasts or YouTube channels. But they must give an added perspective into life at these schools not found on the home page.

From a previous MBA student’s perspective, when I was evaluating my school of choice, I definitely looked at all the school websites. However, with the exception of the program details (class times, schedules, etc.) the message was typically the same. “Our school has higher caliber students.” “We prepare you for your future career challenges.” Etc. But it was actually visiting a class and speaking with the students that sold me on my program. School related websites work similarly by helping bring life and character to a program (even validating them). I have seen the majority of these websites offer a non-salesman approach to prospective students. They don’t feel they are being “sold” on a program, rather, gaining prospective and having a conversation with a friend.

Check out Vanderbilt’s school related website: http://www.owenbloggers.com/
The guy who used to run it has since graduated so it isn’t the most up-to-date, but they are another example of a robust school related website.

  4. Thank you !
